Wat een tijd!
We tweaked, tested, sometimes almost doubted and were constantly on the edge of our seats. Our first year in Division A was a wild rollercoaster ride with highs and lows.
After good, but not good enough games, we were eliminated in the group stage and didn’t make it into the knockout rounds. We were frustrated when the robots simply didn’t do what they should have done, we were annoyed and disappointed in ourselves. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, we went home at the end with a lot of confident thoughts and new insights.
Our findings
Our basics have worked well to very well in the last few games: Passes arrived, shots were taken forward, balls were defended. What is still missing is a skillful interplay of these skills. We need to become faster and more precise. For example, actively intercepting opponents’ passes or closing gaps in the defense. At times, our robots still lack the confidence and courage to simply shoot at goal themselves instead of passing the ball to a teammate. More offensive, less defensive. Is noted. This also means that the robots need to become faster. Both the calculations for strategic planning and the speed of the robots on the field can still be greatly improved. As long as we keep these aspects clearly in mind and know where our construction sites are, we can actively work on them and compete with an even stronger robot team next year!
Our highlight: The ball placement, i.e. the placement of the ball after the throw-in, which caused us some problems last year, is now working perfectly!
Gotta keep your head up!
We mustn’t forget that this was our first year in Division A, so of course we couldn’t pick up where we left off in Division B last year. And a game is only lost if you haven’t learned anything from it. We still have a long way to go, but we can already say that we can learn a lot more in Division A than we did in Division B.
And that’s what RoboCup is all about!
